Ascent of Peak 5060 on 2010-08-30
|Date:||Monday, August 30, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||5060 ft / 1542 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI accessed Peak 5060 from Dead Indian Memorial Road, Shale City Road, Lake Creek Road (38-2E-3.1), then left on 37-2E-7.2, and then left again on 37-2E-33.4 up to a locked gate. I hiked beyond the gate about .75 mile taking a left at the first fork and then straight at the next fork that cut sharply back left where there was a gate and barbless fence. About 100 yds past this last fork I left the road and climbed to my left up the slope on my left towards the summit. This slope is grassy and has second growth trees growing well. Near the top of the slope, larger timber is present and the high point is a rocky brushy outcropping. I surprised 3 nice bucks neaar the summit. One didn't see me and came right at me until he was 30 ft away. I think I heard him mutter "oh crap!!" before bolting off to the south. No views on this rainy day, but this was a nice hike.
