Ascent Trip ReportHiked to McKintyle Range with Ken.H from Colden Dam Lean-to.
The night one day before, bear tried to attack one of our bear cannisters which was unsuccessful. Then, 2 hours later, he or another bear attached hanging net between 2 trees and net was broken but bear got nothing except garbage. It was only containing vodka and garbages after we ate.
We woke up 7AM instead of 6PM.(we were so tired of multiple days hiking) and left lean-to at 9AM. We used ADK #71 Trail which is to Algonquin Peak from North West side of Lake Colden which is about 2.2 mi or so. It's very steep section that acrosses brooks multiple times. We got to the summit of Algonquin Peak at 11:55AM. Because of the clouds and fog, we couldn't see anything unfortunately. After ate some snacks, we left there at 12:10pm and we hiked down different trail (MacIntyre Tr) to grab Wright Peak next. We reached to the juction to hike in Wright Peak at 1:10pm. It was 0.4 mi up next, but, it took 50min to grab Wright Peak. Hike out was quick and I hiked to the base of Wright Peak at 2:20, then, again got to Algonquin summit at 3:10pm as 2nd time. This time, it was clear skies and we had 360 panorama views of all Dacks mountains. I saw Heart Lake besides ADK Loj and Lake Placid cities. We left Algonquin peak and hiked out to the junction of Algonquin and Boundary peak at 3:30pm. Ken and I discussed whether or not we aim Boundary Peak & Iroquois Peak then. I was exhausted at Wright Peak but I was fine at that time. So we decided to try it out. It was raining a bit and windy. Clouds came and went away several times. After we grabbed Boundary Peak & Iroquois Peak, we came back to the Tr Junc. between Boundary and Algonquin again at 4:40pm. We wanted to get this done by 1 hour and it was over 10min than we estimated. It was VERY muddy trail!! Now, we needed to hike out thousand feet to get back to the trail besides Lake Colden. It took 1.5 hours which wasn't bad at all. Then, we reached to the Lean-to at 7PM. It was very long day hike.... but we peakbagged 4 mountains (3 listed and 1 un-listed) -- Algonquin, Wright, Boundary and Iroquois Peaks.
