Ascent Trip Report4.5 hours to the summit & 3.5 hours back to the parking lot. Beautiful weather, left the heat behind at the top of the switchbacks. Only 2 other hikers encountered - one on the same Mt. Defiance route, the other on the down-leg of the starvation-mt defiance loop. Nice view of Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier on the way up & down, and great view of Mt. Hood and Hood River Valley from the summit. It's kind of a let-down to reach such a challenging summit, only to have 3 pickup trucks arrive at the top! I doubt I will repeat this hike, due to the communications installation on the summit, and road to the top. Maybe I'll try Starvation ridge hike next time. this hike is really hard.
