Ascent Trip Report

A long but brilliant and sunny day on this popular daytrip out of Imst. My overall impression was - and I was in the middle of a trip through Tirol and Austria in general - that this section of Lechtaler Alpen offered some of the best scrambling and hikes.
Since this was an 1800 m elevation gain from Imst, I remember being very tired, as well as thinking this was probably the biggest elevation gain for me, at the time. Most of the ascent was on trails, official and unofficial, except for the summit pyramid, say the top 400 vertical meters which were rocky, slabby and marked with stone cairns. It was more of an overall physical challenge than a technical challenge.
Muttekopf offered amazing summit views, similar to ones I'd seen a few years earlier in the Bavarian Alps. On a sunny day, it's also great to descend back to a nice mountain hut, have a soup and a beer, and thus refreshed continue on the way down.
11 hrs in total, lots of suntan.
