Ascent of Quartz Mountain on 2010-08-05
|Date:||Thursday, August 5, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||5657 ft / 1724 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI hiked this on the way back from Abbott Butte. There are 2 trails that go around the west side of Quartz Mountain. I used the lower trail to access the Rogue Umpqua divide Trail at Windy Gap to get to Abbott Butte. On the way back I used the upper trail from Windy Gap to gain a little elevation and get to the west ridge of Quartz Mountain. The north and east sides are protected by vertical cliffs. Hiking up the west ridge is a little brushy, somewhat steep, and is mostly under forest cover. The summit has no views in the forest. There is a rock outcropping on the southwest side of the summit that may be within a couple feet of the elevation of the highpoint in the forest. Hiking stats are combined with Abbott Butte.
