Ascent Trip ReportSevenmile TH is a nice TH on the east side of Skylakes Wilderness. Great road accessing the TH. I hiked up the trail for 1.75 miles to the PCT, turned right (north) and hiked another 2.75 miles to the west flank of Maude Mountain. Here I left the trail at an elevation of 6,460 ft and hiked up the southwest ridge of Maude Mountain. There is no trail for this last section, it is a little steep and I had to pick my way up through some rocky areas and a little brush. I tended to stay on the south side of the ridge top because it looked rockier and a little cliffy on the north side. Mostly it was open country or under a forest cover. Great views from the summit. Crater Lake is not too far north and there are great views of the southern rim of the caldera. To the south, Devils Peak and Mt McLoughlin stand out. I didn't stay long on the summit because thunder clouds started to build. I hurried back down to the PCT, talked to a through hiker for a couple minutes, and beat the rain back to my truck. Nice hike.
