Ascent Trip ReportFrom US-16 on the W side of Tensleep, I headed S on WY-434 for 20 miles to Big Trails. After a sign saying that the pavement ends in 1000 feet, but before it actually ends, I turned E onto CR-58. Call this point mile 0.0. At 0.1 miles I turned R at a fork, onto CR-85 (Dry Farm Rd), where a sign says 11 miles to 33 Mile Rd. The road is a bit rough and a vehicle without high clearance may have occasional trouble. At 6.0 miles I crossed a fence, cattle guard, and a handwritten wood sign that says no bird hunting. A small house is visible uphill on the R. At 8.1 miles I crossed a creek and began climbing into isolated tablelands. At 11.1 miles I reached a large triangle intersection with CR-81 (Thirty Three Mile Rd). A sign provides mileages to many destinations to the L, but I turned R. A couple of miles later I encountered a few mudpuddles, but they didn't cause much trouble. At 17.5 miles is a serious No Trespassing Sign on the R (no consequence, just a landmark). At 18.0 miles I stayed straight where a side road went L with a BLM sign visible above. At 22.0 miles I parked where the road topped out near the border of sections 14 & 23.
The hike is simple and straightforward, 350' gain, steep at first up a W facing hill with a fence crossing, then topping out on the summit ridge and heading E along it over several bumps before the final rise to point 8375.
