Ascent of Bald Mountain on 2010-06-29

Climber: Dennis Poulin

Date:Tuesday, June 29, 2010
Ascent Type:Successful Summit Attained
Peak:Bald Mountain
    Elevation:5626 ft / 1714 m

Ascent Trip Report

I approached Bald Mtn from Wagner Creek Road out of Talent. I turned off the main road onto a spur road thatcomes around the east side of Bald Mtn and I followed it all the way to the end. From there I hiked up a dirt bike track that headed towards the summit. About half way up, the dirt bike path dumped onto a logging road and immediately made a left back up to the summit ridge. The track was not easy to follow in places, but it was easy to see where I needed to go under the forest canopy and even out onto the west grassy slopes. The summit has a great view of the Bear Creek Valley. The south summit on the topo shows it is nearly as high as the real summit, but it is probably 40 ft lower. Nice hike, good views.
