Ascent Trip Report

Went trough the Long Ridge Open Preserve trail entrance west of Grisly Flat TH. Took, Peters Trail, Long Ridge Trail, Long Ridge Road to high point within the preserve boundaries where concrete bench lies at a ridgeline and Long Ridge Road runs into private property. Scaled the bluff to the left of driveway of property boundary with "no-trespassing" signs on 8 ft. fence, etc. Could clearly see house that sits before the HP. Through various sources, believe the property owner has no intentions of letting anyone legally "tag" the true HP in the future. This includes email to Ranger stated on the SummitPost Org. website the did occasional tours with owner permission. Different park ranger on the trail I met stated a lawsuit took place recently with landowner regarding "peakbaggers" on his property. Due to safety concerns for myself and anyone else considering this HP, I'm chalking this one up as a "successful summit" and not recommending anyone attempt to climb fences, etc. For the heck of it, I left a courtious letter at the bulletin board by the mailboxes on Portela Rd requesting "permission" to enter property, willing to donate $ to favorite charity, sign waiver, etc., but have not heard back. A very nice couple was entering road at the same time that I spoke to, and they took a letter stating they would try to talk to the landowner as well. If nothing happens, will simply wait until the property changes title in the future (which will happen unless the owner is immortal) to attempt another 'legal' true summit attempt.
