Ascent Trip Report

This was my one-day RMI training class prior to a guided ascent of Mount Rainier. Our large group first hiked uphill at a blistering pace to test our aerobic capacity, then went through drills for roping up, self arrest, the rest step, and other skills.

This was the first time I ever wore crampons in my life, and my first time roped up on snowy terrain. I may have had rudimentary ice-axe instruction in 1989 (I don't remember) but this was certainly my first serious use of the tool.
