Ascent of Spence Mountain on 2010-05-19
|Date:||Wednesday, May 19, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||5841 ft / 1780 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI accessed Spence Mountain from Hwy 140 near Doaks Mountain Pass. Doaks Mountain is on the other side of the highway and is about 800 ft shorter. Spence Mountain has seen lots of logging in recent times and the logging roads and skid trails break up the brushy areas. I drove up and parked at about the 5,100 ft elevation on the north side of the peak. If I had done some exploring, I could have driven higher on the peak. i just hiked up the north ridge and tried to avoid the brush. Thankfully there were many skid trails that i used to ascend. I crossed 3 other good logging roads that came up from the west. Views from the summit are limited, but you can see to the south.
