Ascent Trip ReportI accessed Horton Rim from Horton Road near the town of Dairy. I drove thorugh one set of green gates, passed a couple of ranch buildings, a home, and a fenced area with several big black bulls before getting to a second gate. This gate was tall and I went through, and then the road deteriorated but I ketp going. If the road had been wet, I would have stopped. The road went up to a saddle and there I noticed a much lesser road going to the left towards the high point. I was soon stopped when the road was blocked by an 8ft tall locked gate. I parked here and started hiking. I followed the lesser road into a little valley and then left the road and started climbing and traversing to my left. The slope was a little brushy, but I could find my way through following animal trails up to a saddle to the east of point 5488. I climbed right over 5488, then down (losing about 150ft) into a little valley and then back up to the ridge where the high point was located. There is a benchmark on the high point. There are good views of the surrounding farm areas from the summit. On the drive back out a couple ranchers informed me that the area between the gates was private property. Oops...
