Ascent of Klamath Hills High Point on 2010-05-18
|Date:||Tuesday, May 18, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Klamath Hills High Point|
| Elevation:||5188 ft / 1581 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI accessed Klamath Hills HP from the Lower Klamath Lake Road. There is a small access trailhead on the north side of the road that the BLM has established. It has a little sign and the area is designed to be used as a bird hunting area during the fall. This entire hike is on BLM land. I went through the gate and followed a boot path up a draw and then to the left towards the summit. The boot path came to a fence with a gate. I climbed over the gate because it seemed to be easier than undoing the gate and then relatching it. You can see a highpoint ahead up a grassy slope. That is the first flase summit. Hike right over this summit and then on to a smaller second false summit. At the high point there is a benchmark and a witness marker with the name "Short" inscribed. There are great views from the summit including views of Mt Shasta to the south.
