Ascent of Grizzly Mountain on 2010-05-18

Climber: Dennis Poulin

Date:Tuesday, May 18, 2010
Ascent Type:Successful Summit Attained
Peak:Grizzly Mountain
    Elevation:5109 ft / 1557 m

Ascent Trip Report

I accessed Grizzly Mountain from Hwy 66 and the Copco Road. There are lots of logging roads in the area of Grizzly Peak and most of them don't show up on any map. The area is a maze of roads. The entire area off of Copco Road is closed during the winter to protect the wildlife from poachers. The last road that I drove was 4WD and took me close to the peak. If it was wet, the road would have been impassable. I parked in a large area that had been used as a logging deck at some point. The area is replanted and you can see the summit above with tall trees in an area that has not been logged. It is a little brushy getting up to the summit area. No views from the summit, but good views to the west on the approach.
