Ascent Trip ReportThis peak was not so easy to find. The nearest town is Ussel, SW of Clermont-Ferrand. From there head north towards la Courtine and turn off right (as you reach the village) onto the D996. Watch out for tanks and other military vehicles crossing the road as you drive along. Once you drive over the highpoint of the road and start to descend for about 0.5km, you will see a tarmac road leading off to the right. The junction has an elevation of 878m. Measure from here. After 2km or so you will pass a hut on the left with an open area used for storing cut trees. At 2.9km you will come to a little roundabout with a single pine tree in the middle. Park here.
Walk 120m NNE on the obvious forest track, then turn left at the obvious junction and continue for a further 150m to the highpoint of the track. The highpoint should be a little off to the left in the forest. This time I could find no trig despite a lot of searching but I undoubtedly crossed the highpoint (probably several times :-))
NB The other approach road from the south which looks possible on the map is not (locked gates, private land).
