Ascent of Peak 2645 on 2010-05-12

Ascent Type:Successful Summit Attained
Peak:Peak 2645
    Elevation:2645 ft / 806 m

Ascent Trip Report

This little peak is bordered by private property on the north and east sides. I drove up Birdseye Creek Rd, took the right fork and stopped west of Peak 2645 at a 5 way intersection. There is one gated road heading north from the intersection. Elevation here is about 2300 ft. None of these roads were good enough for me, so I took a bermed old road to the right of the gated road. This road climbs steeply up to a ridgeline where I found a good road along the summit ridge that was used to do some logging. I think this is the same road that was gated. I followed the good road along the ridge until I was directly west of Peak 2645.

I headed down the ridge, losing about 850 ft, and following some orange flagging along the ridge. The forest canopy was good and it wasn't too brushy under the canopy of lots of old growth fir, pine, madrone, and oak trees. Once I reached the saddle on the west side of Peak 2645, the flagging ended but it was pretty obvious that I had to climb up the steep slope to the summit. This was a little more brushy and near the summit I found an old skid road that I followed right to the summit area. There are no views from the summit because of the brushy forest cover.
