Ascent Trip Report

I stayed overnight in the beautiful city of Troyes. In the morning I headed east on the motorway, missing my intended exit and instead driving past to junction 23. At least I got a nice view of my objective. From the turn off I headed for the village of Champignol-les-Mondeville then in the village centre turned right on to the D70 which heads north out of town. After about 2km there is a junction on the right, signposted Urville. Ignore this and keep driving for another 1km or so until the edge of the forest. Park here (alt. 318m). From there proceed steeply uphill (south), along the edge of the forest. When I visited in April there was a 10m wide gap at the edge of the field which was not planted. Opposite (behind) are some fine views of Champagne vineyards growing up the steep hillside opposite.

At the top of the hill turn left on a track and follow this keeping the forest on your left until you come to a junction where a more defined track crosses you. Turn left onto the track right up to the forest edge. 10m into the trees turn right on another track and proceed a few 100m until you reach the highest visible ground (on your left). Your guess as to the exact highpoint is as good as mine, all that is marked on the map is a small 370m ring contour. No view from the actual summit.

The trig point marked on the map can be easily found by heading southwest from the highest ground under a fence and into the open ground again. You can also get here by continuing to follow the forest edge instead of going into it (fence). The usual small cubic French trig is near the edge of the trees and has a height of 369m.
