Ascent Trip ReportWe started this hike off poorly by going on a logging road instead of the actual trail on accident, so we ended up bushwhacking quite a way to start. We eventually found the trail, and followed it over Mt Surprise, and up to the snow line somewhere around 2500-3000 ft. The snow was heavy and mixed with patches of rock, so we bare booted quite a ways. Eventually we started post-holing alot so we put snowshoes on. We were following the tracks left by previous hikers, and we quickly realized that they led us off the path. We ended up bushwhacking again all the way to summit. We past a couple on showshoes that were coming down, and a barebooter just after that. They both said that they got to the summit, but we realized that they only go to the false summit at around 3140 ft. We spotted the real summit through the trees and continued out bushwhack there.
We arrived at the summit at around 3:30. The summit was fantastic. There was a big flat rock there that we all could sit on and had 360° views and sunshine. We ate lunch, took some pictures, and then headed down again, trying to follow the trail. Again, the tracks there led us astray and we realized that we were going down the wrong side of the ridge, so we had to do a nasty traverse and climb back over the ridge. Once we did, we picked up the trail right away and were able to follow it all the way back down. We got to the car at 7PM.
We headed to the Common Man in Lincoln for dinner, and got back to Boston about 12:30AM
