Ascent Trip Report

If I were to do this again, I am not sure I would go the same way. What we did was take the 300 road up from FS 30 to what shows as the gated junction at 1500'. We did not see any gate but we did see a road that is probably passable to only monster trucks and ATVs. My wild guess is that taking this road to 1800' and going up to the W ridge works better than our route but I can't say for sure. Our route involved staying on the main (good but narrow) road until it meets the ridgeline due N of the peak. You are very close from here. Looking at the ridgeline we saw dense young trees and so we walked back the road looking for a way up. There are a lot of moss covered smooth slabs here and it is fairly steep so we saw no obvious route and the best case was very steep brush belaying. We walked all the way down to the SE ridgeilne junction at 1580'. Returning to the N ridge, we decided to try the brush here. It wasn't bad but you will be poking through some small dense trees. But just plug through it and the distance is short. It gets progressively steeper. We continued until hitting the ridgeline where an open cut provided easy gentle walking. I think the HP is near the W end of the contour and is one of several fairly obvious bumps. This is a steep shwack, not an epic schwack but not a pleasant one either and so I would take my chances with the other route. Contours look gentler. But this will work in a pinch.
