Ascent Trip Report

From Hwy 113 turn W on the FS road that takes off around Beaver Falls. This is a mix of public and private land but access seems to be allowed. Go past the creek crossing at 520' and continue along the road. Here the route deviates from the map. Continue on a rolling traverse and ignore two uphill right turn options. The road won't head up that 1080' switchback but will instead angle WNW and meet the road to the towers. This tower road follow the Hoko River and is incidentally gated off of the West Lake Pleasant Road so that is not a good alternative. You'll see a few signs along the way pointing to Ellis Lookout. Once you reach the tower road, proceed up until you reach the ridge. Good road. The road does continue on from there but it was fairly overgrown and barely driveable so we just walked. We walked the road until just SE of the peak and picked a nice open line through the forest to the fairly obvious summit. Good open forest terrain made for pleasant off-trail walking. Turned out to be easier than we thought.
