Ascent of Levelland Mountain on 2005-05-05

Ascent Type:Successful Summit Attained
Peak:Levelland Mountain
    Location:USA-Georgia
    Elevation:3880 ft / 1182 m

Ascent Trip Report

This trip was an attempt to fill in the sections of the Appalachian Trail in Georgia that I had not previously hiked, and covered the distance from Flatrock Gap (just south of Neels Gap) to Dicks Creek Gap, a distance of about 38 miles.

My troop was planning to hike the section from Tray Gap north starting on Saturday, so I dropped my car at Dicks Creek Gap on Wednesday evening (May 4) and my friend Mark took me to the Reese State Memorial. I hiked up that access trail to the AT at Flatrock Gap (from which I had hiked everything south to Springer) and turned "north." The gain from the Reese parking area to this point is covered as 'extra elevation.'

I hiked down through Neels Gap and climbed up to Bull Gap, where I camped for the night. The next morning I started by ascending the rest of Levelland Mtn and continued on to Chattachoochee Gap.
