Ascent Trip Report

Stewart county has six 760+ foot contour lines that are all south of the county seat of Dover.
The northern two points are along Old Highway 18 not far from the road. The northern one (Chambers Pond) is right on the eastern road side and offers views of surrounding farm land. The other point (Louis Hollow) is a little further south and a few hundred yards east of the road along a dirt hunting road.
The other four points are south near the Houston county line, in fact, one does straddle the line. The other three are in someone’s backyard. The house is on Old Lockhart Road, which is paved if coming from the east but is gravel when approaching from the west along Lower Alsup Rd. these points are near French Hollow.
Also the Dover fire tower is not far from the northern terminus of Old Highway 18. This fire tower actually welcomes visitors (before dark) and the cabin at the top is unlocked and accessible. The view is not exactly ‘breathtaking’ but you are defiantly the highest person in the surrounding county.
