Ascent Trip Report

Maine CoHP/PP 3-bagger with new best buddy Steve Castonguay. McGaffey Mt, Moose Hill, and Shakley Hill. After a futile search for Carr Hill Road we decided to take "Old Rt 41"(according to Delorme street atlas) which leaves right from 41 headed N 0.4 mi N of the Flying Pond boat launch. Road immed. turned into muddy skidder paths which we followed E along the stream to the N-S jeep trail shown on topo, trail snowmobile packed went N to obvious cut back to right at about 1000ft.this dissolved into old skid paths then followed gps to top, over to Moose Hill, parked on Moose Hill Road at Old Philip Smith Road (according to Delorme SA) snow machine packed, took obvious right fork at firewood stash, soon past old (70's?)Ford Custom pickup that showed the effects of crashing into a tree with a 2 ft. dent in front and windshield smashed driver side, headed staright up hill to tower, HP is actually hump to the north. over to Shackley Hill via Shackley Hill Rd then left at Nelson Rd and immed right up hill on road (unplowed but tracked)to camp on N end of Nelson Pd., then whacked up to hump N of true summit then followed ridge S. followed wash that runs down to pond from between shoes needed but snow getting rotten by Noonish.
